Clean Water 05:58
All i remember of those streets was tragedy disguised as fun Beautiful buildings, two world wars hadn't even touched them Imagine what they've seen imagine if those bricks could talk We'd hear of a thousand stories of wandering and tortured souls Strings of joy crossing strains of pain and a spider lurking in every corner of the web I was looking for a friend among all these acquaintances The criteria was climbing i don't know if you filled it but we shared something We were a jewel in the fog We shared clean water Let's go fishing in the dirty canal You offered clean water We'll fly up out of the roof of your house Clean water How'd you end up with a body like that, kid? Was it something that your mother took? Something that your mother did It was a silent question, I got a silent answer Lady it's none of your business You just said "come into my apartment" - it was in the dirtiest part of town I was for you an alternative to spending the day hanging around Slashing your dreams from rotting old mattress I treated you like a child but it it was you who kidnapped me Did you now that where I'm from is exactly like you dream Should I feel bad about that Should I just accept your Clean water...... I was looking for my childhood You were dragged up out of yours And in your last wave before drowning you gave me a taste of how you survive a flood of misery with Clean water Let's go fishing in the dirty canal You offered clean water We'll fly up out of the roof of your house Fuel up on clean water We'll fly up out over Europe and Japan We'll look for clean water And we'll hold the blue Pacific in our hands We'll look for clean water And I'll leave you there to dance like the light On the.......water

Next of Skin 04:40
Our skins are different colours but we stand on the same ground Our forefathers named our land in different languages Some of us live in two worlds some of us are naive exiles But when it comes down to it A smile is smile No te rourou Naku te rourou Ka ora Te manuhiri My lineage on these islands is short and ill defined But with every generation we discover more of our new kind Passing down our treasure to our children and theirs too Everything you've gained from me Everything I've gained from you No te rourou...... Different grains of sand from the same beach Different flowers from the same tree (english translation) With your little bit And my little bit Together, we can feed the guest I'm not looking for my culture I have around me everyday I'm not beating my breast in colonial guilt Respect the past - change today We'll bring on our food baskets we will cook up a new taste We've seen fear, ignorance and bloodshed We won't let it go to waste No te rourou............. English Translation of Te Reo: (proverb from Ngai Tuhoe) "with your little bit, and my little bit, together, we can feed the guest"

Out of the stillness of crippled progress comes a movement Swaying shadows threaten my brick walls Out of the noise of falling mortar A wisper floats Hanging like harmony in the air When 'you coming home Floating in so called love moving with the tide I put my head up for a moment looked around, opened my eyes Where is the land, where are my bearings Where are the fresh water rivers, they should be flowing in Where is the sharing When 'you coming home When'you coming home - I don't know When 'you coming home - I've got things to do When 'you coming home - let me work it out When 'you coming home Am I coming home to you Now on your doorstep someone's dropped me off My pack in tatters and I just stand in a trance Then with a feeble movement of my hand The knock reverberates through every land When 'you coming home......

The knife comes down on the chopping board The vegetable is cut into two pieces Like us And I'm spread out all over the floor But i don't want to be here anymore I'm not going to argue with something i don't understand Gonna go like the steam rising from the stove Out the window Into the night where truth is the ice on my face Go on take away your touch Go on freeze up and leave me melting Go on take away the indecision But you can't have it back 'coz i won't give it back No you can't have it back 'coz i won't give back What you gave And risk can be addicting when it doesn't pay off and risk can be tempting when it haunts your eyes And I didn't mean to construct a challenge around you But you threw one out And i love extremes Go on take away your touch.... But you can't have it back..... And it may take a lifetime of questions And i may live denying the answers And love may grow in definition Every day But you can't have it back........
